Green River Basin
Observed runoff was near to much above normal over the entire
Green River Basin for the April through July 1998 season.
Monthly precipitation in the Basin was near to much below normal to
start off water year 1998. However near to much above normal
precipitation from January through April 1998 brought seasonal
precipitation at the end of April to near normal. It should be
noted that the month of June came in with over 200 percent of
normal precipitation.
The seasonal snowpack averaged much below normal on January 1, 1998
but rebounded to near normal by the end of January. It remained in
this range through May 1, before dropping to below normal by June 1.
However, the very wet and cool regime in June maintained much of the
mid level snowpack in June, while adding to the upper level snow and
delaying melt.
