Little Colorado River Basin

Observed streamflow for January through May was much above median on the Zuni River above Black Rock Reservoir, Rio Nutria near Ramah and Chevelon Creek near Winslow. On the Little Colorado River above Lyman Lake the streamflow total was near median. Downstream, on the Little Colorado at Woodruff, it was below median.

Snow water equivalent was much above median at the beginning of each month from January through April, and monthly precipitation was also much above median for each of the months except January, when it was 80% of median. The October through April seasonal precipitation was 150% of median.

Due to the high snow water equivalent values and precipitation amounts, the forecasts for all of the points were for much above median flow. Even so, the Chevelon Creek and Rio Nutria forecasts were much too low. The observed streamflow volume for January through May for Rio Nutria as well as the February through May and March through May volumes for Rio Nutria and Chevelon Creek were all above the forecast 10% exceedance values. However, on the Little Colorado River mainstem the forecasts were much too high. These points reported below to near median flows. On the Little Colorado above Lyman Lake the observed streamflows for January through June and April through June were below the forecast 90% exceedance values.
